it is still illegal no matter what you 'feel' about it. that means if you have it, transport it, use it or, in any fashion, have anything to do with it, you take your chances. if people want to pick and choose what laws they follow, then they are also picking and choosing what happens to them if circumstances go bad.  4951

sailormike, I am sure they very well could be nice kids, but they did some extremely not nice things.

Although I agree that a person's looks does not necessarily define who they are, these two young men were in possession of loaded weapons and Kush, which is killing people daily....it's a bit more than poor choices on their part. I'm not perfect and have certainly made mistakes but I've never tried to deliberately sell anything that I knew could potentially kill somebody.

As a parent, this is something that I have always hoped and prayed my children never got involved with, so I see this from a different angle than you.

There are much better, not to mention legal ways, to make money. 4951

oh and by the way, gun rights, the second amendment and all that ensures that as long as those guns are legal, why would there be gun charges?  4951

>> It helps with cancer and I've seen it first hand. Alcohol is much worse and Marijuana should be legalized already, cmon texas!

@Beks:

Alcohol accounts for well over 100,000 deaths/yr. Legalizing weed doesn't insure it's safety especially for young developing brains. Also, I believe there is a causal effect, where it can lead to very dangerous substances. Not all people will use weed as responsibly as you. There will always be drug dealers/pushers who prey on young & immature people who'll trick them into buying more dangerous drugs so they can make a lot of $. Many of those young users will end up dead.
I agree that there are some health benefits from weed but there should be pretty strict regulations.

@Zoey:

Actually they've done studies in Jamaica showing the effects of weed on young minds and of babies still in their mothers womb while the mother smokes and it actually improve the child's brain. There is nothing wrong with weed, just they things people decide to do while high. But if that's the only grounds to keep it illegal than many things should be illegal not pot. And no one can say because of pot you get into hard drugs, many recovering addicts actually say it helps with keeping them away from the hard stuff. And legalizing it will take a2ay the need for as many dealers, supply and demand would go to medical bud stores but I do agree there will always be that handful who abuse it but there's always that handful that abuses something whether it's alcohol, prostitution, money, or drugs it'll always be there 4951

@KW2x0:
Synthetic kush is killing people daily and that is definitely not synthetic. And as of today there are actually 0 accounts of Marijuana killing people. The actual drug itself isn't the problem. It's the ignorant people and stupid decision they make dealing with it.
But one thing for sure is that isn't synthetic Marijuana but you are correct SYNTHETIC kush is killing people aka fake bake

@Twala: give me the person that abuses weed over people that abuse alcohol ANY day.  another "gateway drug" problem is that it may have been a bridge to harder drugs when our government was lying its' *** off (it does that in case u didn't know) about the effects of marijuana.  STAY AWAY from MJ said wannabe responsible people.  Then, a kid tries it, laughs their *** off, enjoys music, and gets the munchies.  That same kid then wonders what else its' government/parents is lying about and before long they are learning the hard way what they should have said no to.  Emoticon.s.  KUSH DOESN'T KILL! CRACK DOES!  AND SO DO SYNTHETIC DRUGS WHICH MAY INCLUDE SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA, SYNTHETIC METH, and any other drug that can have a few compounds changed to find its way to being legally sold under the guise of herbal incense, bath salts, etc.

>> Chemical concoction - weed imitation. Bad, bad stuff.

@rugburn:

Lol Kush isn't a chemical concoction, it's a strain of weed. You're thinking of K2/Spice/potpourri/"legal" weed - that stuff is bad news.

@HoofHearted: Apparently there is a new KUSH that is a synthetic version. This is a recent story in the Memorial News. www.yourhoustonnews. com/memorial/news/do zen-overdose-at-herm ann-park-s-kush Dozen overdose at Hermann Park’s ‘Kush corner’

Dozen overdose at Hermann Park’s ‘Kush corner’
Emergency vehicles respond to a report of multiple people overdosing in Hermann Park on Thursday.

At least 16 people were hospitalized after overdosing at Hermann Park on Thursday.The
Houston Fire Department responded to multiple calls for unresponsive
people in the park near Fannin Street and Cambridge Street around 2:30
p.m., officials said. According to Senior Captain Ruy Lozano, the 16
were found with Kush-like symptoms.Kush is a type of illegal synthetic marijuana.“This
area has notoriously been plagued with people abusing Kush,” Lozano
said. “Many of our firefighters have nicknamed this area as ‘Kush
corner.’”Firefighters and paramedics spent hours
canvassing the park looking for additional patients. Lozano said they
found some as far north as the Sam Houston Statue and down Main Street
to Cambridge Street.“There were some complications also with the heat,” Lozano said. “That really made it dangerous.”The area has a large homeless population, he said.“This
has just become a place that they congregate and a Kush-use area,”
Lozano said. “A lot of our units get pulled to this area.”Houston
Police Department homicide investigators D. Crowder confirmed that 16
people were taken to five different hospitals. The department is
investigating if there was a potential common distribution or
distributor that may have caused this incident.Crowder
added that at this point no one who was involved in today’s incident
was seriously injured as far as he is aware. He said this area has
become a problem area and has attracted a lot of crime and drugs
recently.Crowder said many poor or indigent
people are taken to Ben Taub Hospital and then when they are released
they end up right back at Hermann Park.No other information was available as of press time. Reporter Kristi Nix contributed to this report.

@TexasOma:

Maybe so but the stuff bagged up in the pictures from the bust is actual weed, not that synthetic stuff. Kush, the strain, has been around for ages. 4951
