>> @Jumnious: Sigh.  This is bordering on comic! For the last time, nothing "un-American" was going to happen because mayors do not have the "legally given powers" to withhold land sales or licensing to an outside franchise-based company.  Familiarity with the law is important, so please point out to me where, in the Boston city code or Massachusetts register, the power originates.  Your assumption is that something awful was going to happen until public outcry erupted; but nothing was ever going to happen.  The letter was a political ploy designed to elicit a purely emotional response among hotheads.  And it worked.
@kpdad:   Sorry but it was a free ploy and a silly one at that.  Obviously you cant discount it simply because it had its run and would you disagree?  Probably brilliant politics if you are open to the thought.

@kingwooddiscgolf: That's precisely my point.  The liberal playbook calls for having a demagogue (like the Boston mayor) let "slip" that s/he is about to do something very shocking that they actually cannot do legally, and then watch as the conservative pundits attack the issue like moths to a flame.  Of course mayors do not singlehandedly have the executive power to prohibit a large corporation from doing business within their city limits... but hotheads forgot that inconvenient fact when they wasted energy arguing about this-or-that constitutional violation. On a national level, it's like how Obama's camp lets "slip" how guns are dangerous, and all of a sudden the NRA wastes its marketing budget mobilizing us gun owners to "fight" for our gun rights.  In reality, nobody is taking away our guns and no president will nullify the Second Amendment.  But it's a great trick that stirs the waters and obscures the real issues during this electoral cycle (how Obama's ruined our economy, our reputation, and our politics--don't think chicken sandwiches are that important in the grand scheme of things). 4951

@kpdad:   I think you miss the entire strategy completely.  It isnt that anyone can do anything physically its the manipulation of the public mind.  Actually maybe you and I agree as I read the post again.  I think my point would be that really they have no real authority to do anything but through the media and just vocalizing it, the damage is done for a dime. 4951
