Two Men Face Illegal-Voting Charges in Montgomery County

Two Harris County men, Angel Evora and Darrick Haynie, are facing illegal-voting charges in Montgomery County after investigators alleged they cast ballots while still on felony parole. According to Montgomery County District Attorney Michael Holley, the Attorney General's Office filed the cases locally and will handle the prosecutions.

Attorney General Ken Paxton's office said an October 27th tip prompted investigators to review voter records and check the individuals' criminal justice status with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Authorities allege multiple people voted in Harris County while on parole. Warrants were issued in Montgomery County on October 30th and the investigation remains ongoing.

Booking information lists October 31st bookings for Evora and Haynie, with an illegal-voting charge and a parole-board blue warrant for each. Evora's entry also lists another warrant, an expired-license-plate matter and a window-tint matter. A felony conviction does not necessarily mean a permanent loss of voting eligibility in Texas. The Texas Secretary of State says people can become eligible to register after completing their sentence, including parole and probation, or receiving a qualifying pardon, provided they meet the other requirements.

The illegal-voting charges are allegations. An arrest is not a conviction.
