I watched a documentary years ago about these caravans and I was struck by the market forces at work here. If someone can sell the idea to willing participants that they will be able to get into America, they can make some serious money by taking the life savings of these folks. They interviewed one boy (he was 16 years of age - keep that in mind when you read the rest of this) who was smiling and saying that he was coming across because they told him an American would ADOPT him. My jaw dropped. The interviewer wanted to understand why each individual was coming over or why they THOUGHT they were coming over.
This whole process is not working and hasn't for decades. The borders need to be closed tightly for a good ten years at least. People can just deal with paying more to get the system functional again. We need to reassess all the forces that have led to this issue even being divisive. Get through the pending cases, stop needing more detention centers, and do this the right way. For anyone who feels this is working for either side; they are in denial.This past week, I interacted with a Harris County employee and they had a good job with benefits and all that and it was NOT a job low on the totem pole. I needed an interpreter; they knew almost NO English. Are you telling me there is not one American who would want that nice paying job that ends at 5 (like clockwork ended at five each day) with good benefits? BULL! We have to get real not only about where the jobs are going but WHY they are going there.Will not respond to comments from people who have only experienced life "in theory" ...lol!
