Houston Area House Price Drop Pulled up Zillow to look at houses prices again...geez, looks like there's been a fairly substantial drop in home prices since I last checked. Looks like a number of decent homes are on the market right now in Kingwood in the low $200-$220k range, with a couple fixer uppers in the $179-$189k range. Much cheaper than 4 years ago.

This is why you need to contest your property taxes every year because in the city's eyes the values are going up, which is how they steal your money if you don't get involved. I personally use Ownwell.com because I don't have the time to deal with it every year but they do and they only charge 25% of the reduction while most charge 50% and once you sign up they automatically do it for you every year until you cancel them.

I don't remember the average time on the market, but it's a buyer's market with much higher mortgage rates. A new parent I know got 10% off listed price last month. From a 1 BR apartment to a 3 BR home. What a country!
definitely better prices, and homes are on the market longer, as well, so make it more of a buyer's market, right now.
