I know someone who has not been able to get 11 for many, many years and 13 as well.

Solar interference. It's happening to me and we are in spitting distance to the transmission towers.

see if you can 'search for channels' again. sometimes, the signal gets weak, and when you do the search again, it comes in more clearly. you might also pick up more ,or new channels, this way
Are you running scans? Sometimes you get different stations and pull in ones that were weaker before. I occasionally have 13 just disappear and run another scan, it comes back.
you can, and it is a viable option, and good way to save money, which is often needed, these days. I also have one I bought at WalMart, for about $12 at the time, and I think they can be purchased for under $20, even now. When the cable goes out, I just pop the antenna on, in seconds, and boot up a lot o f channels; most of the basics, like Ch 2, 11, Fox, etc. and some cool channels with some great old school tv programs and movies, too. Back in the day, you plugged in your tv to the wall, and only the 3 major networks came on, because that is all there was. Nothin' wrong with that
Well, now that I had some time to look into the space weather, it's pretty clear of solar flares or anything that would effect broadcast signals. So, if I had to wager a guess, it's just the heatwave and distance for those in Kingwood. It's a fun bit of science actually. It's called Summer Atmospheric Tropo-Ducting. It's when the Texas heat cranks up in the summer, it creates this weird weather trick called tropospheric ducting. Layers of hot air trap the TV signals and bend them along the ground instead of letting them escape into space. Because the signals travel so much farther than usual, channels from way out in Beaumont, Austin, or even Louisiana start bleeding right into the local Houston frequencies, completely scrambling your reception and knocking out your favorite stations. As for Channel 13 (KTRK), that's simple. They exclusively broadcast in VHF while everyone else is using UHF. A lot of the indoor antenna are those flat plastic deals and they are ideal for picking up VHF. If you have one that has rabbit ears or antenna array that usually can pick it up better. On my end it may be the combination of heat and signal overload being so close to the towers. May try a little experiment if I have all the parts. I'll let you know if I tinker something together.
