Kingwood Middle School Launches New Weapons Detection System

~ 2 mos, 3 days ago

Kingwood Middle School began using the Evolv Weapons Detection system yesterday, August 12th as part of Humble ISD's expanded campus safety procedures. The system has been installed at the school's main entrance and bus entrance, and all middle school students will be required to pass through it when entering the building each day. Humble ISD has previously used the technology at district high schools and Turner Stadium.

School officials noted that Evolv is a weapons detection system rather than a traditional metal detector. Certain everyday items, including laptops, large binders, metal water bottles, umbrellas and eyeglass cases, may trigger an alert and could need to be removed before students pass through.

Students arriving early for athletics or other school activities will also be screened. KMS said slight delays may occur as students adjust to the new process and encouraged students to arrive before 8:15 AM.

I never had to go through a weapons detection system when I was in middle school. They are probably going to use it in high schools as well.
