West lake Houston automotive Took our Honda Pilot to West Lake Houston Automotive for a third opinion after two other shops recommended a complete transmission replacement, with estimates between $7,000-$8,000.
We've trusted the first two shops for years and have always taken our vehicles there, so we were surprised when we got such a different diagnosis. A friend recommended West Lake Houston Automotive, and we decided to give them a chance.
After properly diagnosing the issue, they found the real problems: an oil pan issue and a bad passenger CV joint. They replaced both for a total of $817 out the door.
The Pilot is running like new again!

Dan88 : I would like to know what the symptoms were that caused two to say transmission replacement and one to say oil pan and CV joint?
Dan88 : I have heard great things about them too! That is good to know because it can be hard to find a good honest mechanic.
glucola : That is true. My husband went to the same business Dan mentioned because his check engine light went on. They told him he needed to order a part that they didn't have. My husband went home and ordered the part. A few days later the check engine light went off. My husband canceled the order. It's been months of driving and there has not been a problem again.
MrsC67 : Just to clarify, the oil pan leak was caused by stripped threads from the last oil change, and the fluctuating RPMs started after an incident where I went over a curb. Caliber said they found metal shavings in the transmission, which made it sound like a major failure.. Honda dealership also said complete tranny replacement. After going to WLHA, it turned out the issues were related to other components and not a full transmission replacement. Always worth getting a second opinion or third in my case lol « Back to Chat
