Windshield Damage; How Long To Let It Go?

I was way behind a dump truck this morning and a large chunk did hit my windshield, but luckily did not cause damage. a larger chip did hit the car in front of me and caused quite a chunk out of the windshield and I know it because the lady walked up to my car when we both got off at Northpark and went to H-E-B. She asked me if I knew the name on the truck and I unfortunately did not, but there is not much recourse to get them to pay for it,4 in any case. do you have a chip repaired immediately, or do you wait until it causes a larger break or a spiderweb of fissures?

LittleTexas :
I'd get it repaired as quickly as possible. Waiting on repair gives the chip time to get dirt and debris in it making the repair more visible and less effective at preventing it from spreading. Also with the heat of summer upon us quick temperature changes causing the windshield to expand and contract quickly is a major cause of chip becoming a crack.

LittleTexas :
You should get the chip repaired ASAP, especially if your car sits out in the sun.

Either do it yourself or have it done soon. For the reasons above.

LittleTexas :
Go get it done ASAP and this is the go to guy in the area! He is about a mile west of Old MacDonald's Farm on the other side of the road. Right by the Godzilla power lines.

He has two awnings that he works under. He has been there for years! I had one that began to run a little and you don't want that to happen. He can get backed up a little bit so be prepared to wait and you could be out in a 1/2 hour or 1.5 hours. Once he starts on it, it is about a 1/2 hour depending on size.

I would get to him ASAP. He is about $45 for repair. As the owner says, "if you drive in Houston, you need to keep my number handy."

Agree. Fix it now. You don't want it to start running and the heat can cause this to happen quickly.

Fix it asap. A rock hit our windshield 2 weeks ago. Left one heck of a ding. We suspected the entire windshield would need to be replaced. The car is only 7 mos old. As it turned out, the windshield needed to be replaced. Thankfully our insurance covered it entirely. $3,050.00.

CaffeineFree :
luckily, that rock did Not damage my glass, which, honestly, was some kind of a Miracle! The lady who did have a large crack in her windshield though. I have one little 'star' from a repair on my passenger's side, and watch it like a hawk. It happened 18 months ago. Felt bad for that lady; hers was already walking, getting larger, and had a chunk out of her glass, all in her line of vision, when driving. No one was following closely, but those bumps on 59 will get you every time.Emoticon Incoming!!!

Safelite does mine; great service, and no charge to me. But, I will surely save the info on that other guy; I like to give local people business, when I can.

I, too, recommend the dude on 1960 as mentioned by SteveT and donnatella. He has taken care of countless windshields for our family and those we send his way. He's a great guy and can help you use your insurance if you'd like. I went to him last week after I got the worst chip in my lifetime. He did such a good job that you really have to look to see where the repair is. His filler prevents the sunlight refracting through the fissures and keeps your sight line clearer. You don't get out of your car and on your way in minutes.
