By the time HCFCD finishes the Kingwood Diversion Ditch redesign, it will have taken almost twice as long as it took the U.S. to win WWII. See the latest!

Why does it take 2 years for a design for a straight shot ditch other than reaching out to others for designs/studies/etc to enrich them for an existing lined ditch? Thank you Bob for your continued diligence and shining the spotlight on city/county projects.

BobRehak : Some work was just finished behind the fire station to widen the concrete drainage ditch T for water coming from the Lakeville Dr area. With today's laser guided dozers it should be easy to re-slope and widen the drainage ditch to below Walnut Ln. The large rocks just below Walnut Ln could then be removed (several feet drop across the rocks). That may expose the bridge supports and have to be re-constructed. Another choking point is the square concrete sluice pipes going under Woodland Hills, just beyond the old Ag barns. There is very little elevation change from the bridge to the river.

BobRehak : I may be wrong, Does this diversion ditch direct most of the runnoff north of Kingwood? Which makes me wonder, Crenshaw lost his reelection bid, a banker from Montgomery county invested heavily in Toth, because he had a dispute with Crenshaw. Is this politics at play?

PickMe : diverts water from Moco and many Western parts of Kingwood residential areas E of WLHP southward in to West Fork of San Jacinto just W of River Grove Park. The project is overwhelmingly the deepening and/or widening of the existing ditch to increase capacity during periods of extreme rainfall.

asasolid2r : Those areas in Harris County you mention have been pretty much established since the early 70s in Kingwood, this ditch does nothing to solve river flooding from upstream, to me most of the new runoff from expansion is in MoCo.

PickMe : the ditch was not designed to alleviate river flooding only to get water away from its drainage area of the ditch. The dredging of river on more frequently than on a "break glass in case of emergency" and increasing the size and number of the Lake Houston Dam gates are the parts related to river flooding.
