Parents, please remind your kids...
to check the driveways as they ride their electric bikes and scooters down the greenbelt along WLHP. This afternoon, were we at Sonic enjoying a root beer float, watching kid after kid riding the greenbelt there. We remarked how not one of them turned their head to check the driveways for cars. And don't you know, just as we started pulling out, a girl on an electric scooter came out from behind the ground-level Sonic sign at top speed and crossed the greenbelt right in front of us. It happened so fast, we both gasped, I don't know how we didn't hit her. With warmer weather upon us, I'm just hoping parents will remind the kids keep an eye out for cars pulling in or out of the businesses.

I'm teaching my kid how to drive and this is one of the things I have been pointing out. Stop first at the greenbelt, check for people, then pull out to the end of the driveway. Kids and adults alike, so not check before crossing.

Was at HEB this afternoon, waiting for my groceries (had ordered on the website). Saw three bands of junior high/high school age kids come through on scooters. It had just rained so the parking lot was a little slick. Each band of kids had at least one kid looking at their cellphone. No one was wearing a helmet. I fell off the back of my brother's bike right before the start of fifth grade. It was the 90s, so no helmet. Last thing I remember was falling - next thing I know I woke up in my parents bed, the next day. I had amnesia for literally 24 hours and didn't fully recover for weeks. Concussions are no joke. I'm really, really glad these kids are outside (I ride thousands of miles a year on my bike) but I flinch every time I see one of them hauling a** without a helmet on.

There was some cheer competition in Houston last weekend. The car in front of us ran the red light and almost plowed into a group of Girls. The Girls in front stopped dead in their tracks. Everyone; walkers, people in the surrounding cars (with windows down) all gasped and screamed. It really only takes that one car, or "driver", not paying attention.
QueenB and Kittle reacted Yes, I noticed that few of the kids on scooters wear helmets and none stop at stop signs or slow down at driveways. Most of the kids on regular bicycles wear helmets.
