Sound of the train. I'm near Town Center and can clearly hear the train.
I suspected the cold weather helps to promote the sound.
I just googled it & that's true due to temperature inversions. It's interesting.

We are closer to the front of Kingwood and with the cold temperatures both the trains and aircraft are much more noticeable.

I heard it this morning too and loved it.
I hear the train very often and as you say more pronounced on cold nights.
You can feel the vibration in your chest. Quite a lot of power.
One thing that has hurt us on keeping the noise down is all the trees that have been cut down over the years for all the development along 494. When we first move here back in '97, you would barely here the train. Back then there wasn't nearly the development like now. We're in NWH and believe me, the train sounds a lot louder than it used to.

United's maintenance base has several "blast fences " on the FM1960 side of the airport. We do high power engine runs on a regular basis. While audible here in Kingwood, it's very impressive seeing it first hand up close. You can feel the vibration in your chest. Quite a lot of power.
