Houston is bleeding students and money according to NPR talk radio. if I heard correctly, the district lost 8000 students to date (might wanna check for yourself) with another 6000 loss expected in the coming years. Each student brings in 6k federal dollars a year per student, this equates to a loss of 50 million so far. Maybe this will bring about some brainstorming to improve the monstrous failure of public schools if the so-called experts were doing their jobs correctly, this wouldn't be an issue today, they have only themselves to blame. All that money, all that failure.. SMH

I wonder over what time frame they are referring to? That's a lot of students. Over all time or just recently? Vouchers? But we all know this system is failing. It's interesting. Countries like China who spend a fraction of what we do, are highly successful….

50 million is a lot of money. Where are the students going? Just dropping out or going to other states?

MissAmericanPie : I was able to Google it, but I had to sign up for a paid subscription to their website so I just took screenshots
Donnawisdom : My guess is self deporting families, drop outs (always a high number) curious to learn what percentage of these losses are parents now allowed school vouchers for private schools.
Ruger5 : I don't think any bc next month starts the application process so no one has made a move yet that would inform schools. 😫
Two thoughts about "disappearing" students from HISD
TRUANCY
MIGRATION to suburbs (been watching that trend for 30 years). As family economics becomes better they move to suburbs and homes

Fertility rates around the world are moving downward. The graduating senior populations are bigger than the incoming kindergarten classes. Just search news articles for school closings and enrollment decline. It's happening all over the place.
Hardly bleeding.
It's over crowded as it is.
There are millions of people in Houston and surrounding burbs.
It came in too quick and is a burden on the cities infrastructure and finances.
