Thanks to driver who stopped and halted traffic, the kids made it o.k. - but they need some reinforcement on safety in traffic.
I know that's a relatively narrow street with lots of cars parked in front of homes. This morning the two boys were riding toward the Tree-Sandy Fork intersection with the older boy on the bike on the correct side of the street. However, the scooter riding younger boy was on the other side and dodging around the parked cars.
I assume he was on that side to avoid having to be able to turn left at the intersection more easily? But his worried face and the way he kept glancing at the older boy said he needed help.

msuz : Omg thank you! I have been the witness of sooo many kids darting right out in traffic on these mini motorcycles - NOT scooters - MOTORCYCLES - capable of speeds in excess of thirty mph. THEY ARE A DEATH WAITING TO HAPPEN. MARK MY WORDS.

msuz : Ruger5 : YES! Whatever happened to looking left, right and left before proceeding. Anymore when I am driving.......I slow down when approaching the green belts. People on wheels don't stop let alone slow and look. I have almost collided. Mostly it is the speed bicyclists who are on a mission.
cbear : these photos were taken randomly in my neighborhood on different days, I have thought about going to the police station begging to give safety lessons in school for these kids. they need that at the very least. Stay tuned.
msuz : I wish people would stop parking on the street so much along Sandy Fork and Tree Lane. It's harder to get through, and it's surprising that more kids don't get hit over there because of it. I can't speak for parents of other teenage drivers, but my son has been very cautious when driving. He's still a little scared and intimidated by the fast, aggressive drivers out there, and has asked me several times if that was normal. Sadly, it is now, but it didn't used to be like this.

Edit to add……not judging parents who choose to allow their littles to ride the neighborhood on these things BUT if your eyes aren't physically on them ( which my eyes have yet to spot one adult following with kids on these motorized contraptions - YOU DON'T witness the dangers that lurk. Trust me when I tell you that teenage boys in cars are absolutely not watching out for little or johnny or Susie……….your littles share the roadways with the most dangerous group of drivers on the planet……..teenage boys behind the wheel of three thousand pounds of steel. You explain to your littles the importance of staying on the sidewalk (which may or not even be legal) but trust me when I promise they are NOT always on the sidewalks.

mutton : Absolutely! Add DUI's in the mix and the stats are horrid. Which is why these babies riding motorcycles is beyond comprehension why it's not regulated …..too new I guess. It will take deaths before it's addressed.

Ruger5 : Yes, and I understand that. I worry about mine every time he goes out in the car, and I feel that inevitably (but hopefully not too badly) he will probably end up in a wreck at some point. I do see the kids on the little motorbikes and scooters and I also worry about them, too. They are so young, reckless and carefree, but I've seen one (that others have mentioned) that is crazy aggressive and drives dangerously. Parents do need to do a better job about teaching their kids to ride these things responsibly if they are going to keep giving these things to them. They are not toys, and driving is not a game.

I know these motor scooters aren't going anywhere now, they are everywhere! But they need to make these kids attend a safety class to get a permit or something. I'm seeing it daily now!
MissAmericanPie : Have witnessed this too many times to count…..and OMG have you seen these babies whiz through parking lots at break neck speeds? These littles lack the mental maturity to comprehend the dangers that lurk. This is nuts.
I agree safety needs to be taught to the kids by police or someone!!! Parents are for sure not doing it. I followed a little girl thus week and turned on my blinker to turn left, she did not know her hand signals and also turned left. I was thinking she was going straight since she was in the middle of the damn street. Grrr she did move over finally, but dang she didnt stop at the stop sign or signal her intentions. Could be ugly for her one day.
Txbutterfly : No question this is a growing danger. Just wait til the new crop of littles get theirs this Christmas. I seriously have thought long and hard about taking these pics to police station in the hopes they will partner with schools to alert these kids of the dangers they are putting themselves and those driving cars in. They need road safety first and foremost. They are owed that. « Back to Chat
