Drive Sober: A Holiday Safety Pledge“As we head into the holiday season, Constable Ryan Gable’s Office and AAA want to send a clear and urgent message to all drivers: do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Impaired driving is not just a legal risk, it is a serious threat to lives on our roadways.This time of year sees a spike in travel, celebrations, and, unfortunately, crashes involving substance-impaired drivers. That’s why Constable Gable’s deputies will be conducting high-visibility enforcement by increasing patrols in vulnerable areas especially roadways and highways.AAA strongly supports this effort and encourages everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride home: designate a sober driver, take a taxi or ride-hailing service, or use public transportation. We also want to remind people that impairment is not limited to alcohol but also other substances (including marijuana and certain prescription medications) can also impair driving. If you’re hosting a gathering, please offer non-alcoholic drink options and help your guests make safe plans to get home. For individuals, if you ever feel “different” from sobriety, don’t drive. Finally, if you see a driver on the road who appears to be impaired; swerving, drifting, or driving erratically, please call 911.
