Brat I have been meaning to post this for a while and your post about your recent dental journey spurred me on. I think it was 
KingwoodNana who let us know a little bit about the program a while back. The program is right here at the Kingwood campus and 
BrendaT and I have been going for a little while now and soon to finish. It is a teaching program, so it takes a little longer, but the care you receive is top notch and overseen by dentists and hygienists to make sure everything is done correctly. The staff and students are wonderful and the program standards are very high for admission. They will do cleanings and even deep cleanings. Our journey - and this depends on the individual needs of the patient Screening - to make sure that you are eligible and a fit for the program
Session 1 - General history, oral cancer screening and looking at mouth etc
Session 2 - X-rays and consultation with dentist
Session 3 - Periodontal exam and charting of the mouth
Session 4 - Coming up with plan and moving to cleaning
Session 5 - More cleaning and possibly done
Extra Session - If necessary. Sessions last about about 2 3/4 hours and Friday's are 2 session days if you want to knock off a couple at a time. * we fell into the category of 60 and over and have not had to pay for services which would be over $2,000 for the care you would have from a hygienist and dentist.

I highly recommend the tooth sealant. They did it in New Mexico schools for free 35 years ago and my son never had a cavity!

3 to 3.5 hours the first visit. And then wait for months to be called for the cleaning . No Thank You !
Cstomio123 : Did this actually happen to you? Those students have certain things they have to get completed on time. If anything it's the patient who cancels appointments and makes the student wonder if they will get to complete the needed tasks. It's kind of up to you if you do this quickly or slowly. Your availability matters! The Process is spread out over some time and if you continue long enough you will get your teeth cleaned several times over the 2 year period. Although I have dental insurance, I was a pt. for my neighbor girl when she went through the program at UT Dental School. It is a little higher cost than the Lonestar program and you do have to drive to the medical district but it is so worth it. I learned so much about my teeth and how to care for them. I learned about stuff my regular dentist would never offer. Such as, a product they can apply to a small cavity and heal it. Your dentist will not tell you about that! He would rather fill a cavity, have it turn into a bigger cavity over and over till you need a crown. I still go to my neighbor girl for my dental care. I've now been seeing her for 8 years. She has never hurt me like my old hygienist did. If I did not have dental insurance I would certainly utilize a dental hygiene program for my dental care. The price is fantastic and the care is great. After all, the student hygienists grade depends on how well they do their job. It is very important to them!

Kittle : That's cool. We have limited dental. I have taught in different med schools and other allied health programs and they are great. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it is there for those who want to help and receive service at the same time.« Back to Chat
