I personally think it was a good thing to settle the dispute with firefighters. As for the bike lanes. What a PITA! It feels like they take space from the traffic lanes and put in a bike lane. That could not be safe for people riding their bikes.

mutton : I can understand that but, the bike riders tend to not follow the traffic laws and in my opinion that is their biggest problem.

That said, the answer isn't to get rid of them. They need to be kept clean. We need better separation to keep cyclists away from cars and to slow cars down. There's way too many idiots in Dodge Chargers thinking they're in the Indy 500. Way too many pedestrians and cyclists die in our roads, especially compared to other states and other countries. I also think it's a ridiculous waste of money to tear them out when they are already there (like he famously did on Austin St in midtown). That money is much better spent to fix potholes and is extremely petty and small-minded.
LemonEye : Good for you! I hope you are not one of those who want to act like a car but then does not follow the traffic laws. I see bike riders doing that all the time. I agree the potholes need to be fixed but shouldn't that have been done under the mayor who promised to repair them all? He truly missed the mark on that one! I'm sure the road department is working on the pothole just as quickly as they did during our last mayor's term. They seem to operate on the slow setting and don't ever speed things up just to get the job done. I suppose it's job security for them.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Ban bikes on public property. On streets or bike lanes they are a bother and a risk to themselves. On sidewalks they pose a threat to pedestrians.
Alethea : I don't think they should be banned but, they do need to know they are taking a risk.
