Depends on where and when you are staying. Mass Transit is not exactly the best here so you will need a car probably. Let me know in general where you will be for a better list

Taliesin West- a Frank Lloyd Wright House
Phoenix Zoo and Papago park
Botanical Garden
Tempe Marketplace on the Salt River
Old Town Scottsdale I live south of the city and don't get into the city much. I also tend to be outdoorsy so here's my outdoorsy list
Wild Horses on the Salt River in the Tonto National Forest- we go to Coons Bluff. Definitely need a car as it is east of downtown.
Lost Dutchman State Park- beautiful hiking and well maintained trails
Goldfield Ghost Town is across the street from the state park-there are old buildings and touristy stuff- also some great artists who sell their art work. Again you need a car.
You are just 2 hours from Sedona- that would be number 1 on my list if I were visiting Phoenix. Also 3 hours from the Grand Canyon

What part of Phoenix will you be staying? How far of a distance from where you are staying are you expecting to travel?

I enjoyed SanTan flats, the botanical gardens and the arboretum

spork:I believe we will stay out near Sun City. I will have a rental car but will be by myself since my husband will be in meetings. I would be willing to travel a little distance. I had already looked into the Grand Canyon and I think that would be too far for me to go in one day. Thanks for the input!

Txbutterfly : San tan flats is right by me - I've never been- I've seen on the website that shall not be named that it gets pretty rough on the weekends 😱

Ooo, it wasn't rough for us. And lots of family/kid stuff. But that was a couple years ago.

That's NW of the city so just about everything I listed is quite a distance traffic wise for you. Sedona is really feasible - less than 2 hours from where you will be. Let me see what I can dig up

Lol when we hike the park near us we go by there before dawn and there are still quite a few cars in the lot! Some people have a ton of fun. 🤣. They get mixed reviews- some people love it some don't just like everywhere else.

Be sure to take 89a to Sedona so you go through Oak Creek Canyon.

Oak Creek Canyon is N of Sedona- it's the scenic way to Grand Canyon. It is beautiful but might be a stretch for a day trip

Also, if you are in good shape, and like hiking, hike up Camelback Mountain.
