I wanted to share about the American Sewing Guild in Houston. We previously had a neighborhood group meeting here in Kingwood but it was canceled during COVID when our meeting space closed for quarantine. We are trying to reorganize our meeting space for Kingwood when we find a good location. The library won't let us meet there because our sewing endeavors may interfere with their intention to bring sewing classes to library visitors. Any suggestions would be great. I tried to arrange a meeting at the community center but they want us to commit to a weekly meeting and our neighborhood groups generally only meet once a month.I also wanted to let residents here know of American Sewing Guild Houston's annual fall luncheon coming up on September 20th 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. It will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church across from MFAH on Main street in Houston. A central location downtown was chosen because we have members who live in Baytown, Clear Lake, Pearland, Katy and continuing around the Houston suburbs to include Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita. We will serve a box lunch from Jason's and listen to a speaker then share our handmade garments in a guild Sew and Tell. After the luncheon some of us will head over to the museum to view a powerful and touching quilt display.The speaker this year is Bianca Springer of Thanks I Made them (IG and website ThanksIMadeThem). She will be speaking about her experience using quilt tops to create beautiful coats, jackets and maxi dresses. She first inherited quilt tops from her mom and aunts. She wasn't a quilter but made garments. She began creating gorgeous jackets, coats and dresses from these pieced fabrics. Now she teaches across the country at workshops, retreats, quilt guilds and sewing expos. We are excited to have her share her beautiful story and experience with us.ASG Houston has partnered with several local businesses as well as a national sewing brand to provide a special gift for each guest and multiple door prize giveaways to be awarded during the luncheon. Please join us!I am attaching our advertisement and registration info. Our deadline for registration has been extended to September 15th due to a flurry of registrations this last week. We want to provide enough time for everyone who wants to come to be able to buy a ticket. Please share with your sewing relatives, friends and neighbors! We have been told recently some people didn't even know we existed. I'm trying to help that by getting the word out.
