Is HOA really necessary? I'm pretty sure by starting the petitio

Moon007 : The HOAs really do serve a purpose besides being a pain. Think about it. Find the worst house in your neighborhood. How would you like having one that looks like that next door and across the street? How would you like every other house looking like that? You probably wouldn't. The HOA really does try to keep the standards of the neighborhoods up . I got a letter because my house needed to be treated for mold. It looks so much better now. Almost like we had it painted. I think sometimes people do not realize how bad their house looks till the HOA points it out.

Moon007 : Surely you gest lol. While the HOA has its downfalls and problems….this place would go downhill fast without it.

As much as I hate the HOA's, they are a necessary evil. The upkeep of our properties is important to keep the neighborhoods looking nice, even if it feels intrusive or unwarrented sometimes. I would prefer, of course, for them not to go up on the fees so much every year, though, because it is getting a bit ridiculous in the area we live in.

Moon007 : Starting an overall petition cannot and will not dissolve HOAs. Each village has its own bylaws. In MBV, it would take 2/3 of the 1,213 homeowners (809) to make a change like that. Most villages have difficulty getting quorum (usually 10%) of the community to vote each year for HOA board members.

One of the reasons we bought in Kingwood is the HOA. Not everyone is a responsible homeowner. Surely you don't think the City of Houston will maintain our current status.

Members who vote on the fees are volunteers and have to pay the same fees. The fees are driven by the expense of insurance and common area maintenance such as pools and landscaping plus a management company. All costs are increasing and those increases have to be paid by homeowners.

I'd take an HOA over all the taxes we pay. Can we start a petition to get rid of some of these taxes?

Moon007 : All I am going to say is.....they have never helped me or my neighbors with a problematic neighbor on our street. Good news though....they are selling. Now, fingers crossed for the new neighbors coming in to be nice and quiet.

Texasdad : Apparently to investors. That said, they may flip it or make it a rental. I heard that 30% of Kingwood homes are rentals now from my neighbor. Nothing against renters at all. Just something that my neighbor told me.

I agree; if you do not think so, go drive around a neighborhood that does not Have an HOA, and you will definitely see Why we need one, even though they can definitely be a pain, at times.
