Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in car crash that kil
Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in car crash that killed couple in Kingwood A driver involved in a car wreck that killed a husband and wife in Kingwood has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
John Nathan Dool, 40, has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter for his role in the collision that claimed the lives of 60-year-old Curtis Van Diest and 66-year-old Catherine Van Diest.
The collision happened near the intersection of West Lake Houston Parkway and Magnolia Cove Drive and was reported at around 5:45 p.m. on July 13.
The Van Diests were traveling in a white Cadillac XT5 SUV and stopped at a stop sign traveling northbound on Magnolia Cove. As the SUV pulled out following the stop, a Ram pickup truck struck it.
After the contact, the truck hit a pole and landed on its side.
Responding paramedics pronounced both Curtis and Catherine dead at the scene.
Dool, the driver of the truck, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities determined that he was impaired at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the situation remains active.

Could someone please clarify the true ages of the couple killed? One "news" media says 80-something.. Another "news" outlet says 60-something. What is accurate? The local news around here is absolutely horrible. They couldn't get a story accurate if they were there watching it happen.
klp1972 : The were both in there 60's. Obvious by the photos posted they were not in there 80's media always seems to jump the gun... I guess that is how the Elderly reference was used... 60's are not "elderly" in my book.

klp1972 : Accuracy hasn't been important in media in a long time. Getting a story out is more important to them these days than getting an accurate one.

I was almost the news story yesterday, crossing 494 at Hamblen towards the tracks. The vegetation was so grown up that I couldn't see clearly what was coming on 494. I did what I could to see through the tall grass and thought I had a clear path - and did not see the little car coming on fast. If that driver had been impaired - me and the wife would probably be dead. But it was just a close call because they were able to slow and swerve.
jrw2017 : Very true I forgot that a speeding drunk driver nearly hit me years ago after dropping off a video at Blockbuster on Northpark years ago. When I pulled out he was way down past the little bridge (at Swamp Donkey). I moved over into the left hand lane right away to turn at Woodland Hills and all of the sudden I heard screeching brakes! I slammed on the brakes and the car swerved in front of me and into the lane divider and hit a tree! I had my then 12 yr old daughter with me and I pulled into the Walgreens parking lot, told her to stay in the car and ran back. There was a nurse on the scene who had followed her down Northpark and had already called the police to report her as a drunk driver before the accident occured! Totally drunk, demolished the car and not a scratch on her.
