Went shopping for Kerrville folks needing supplies. Daughter and twins and butler joined me. I explained everything to the twins. The company my daughter works for is sending a big semi loaded with donations.
We bought things that people who have homes take for granted. Tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, detergent for clothes etc.
The twins were a big help saying things like we need to buy band aids. And they looked for the least expensive things instead of name brands.
Avery scored some inexpensive liquid hand soap that had a nice scent. Things like that. And we bought all they had.
Ethan says everyone needs to go to a toilet so we should buy toilet paper.
Y'all get the general idea. And yes we did spend some money on these things.
Got it all checked out and of course we loaded it up in the pouring rain. Got a call from my daughter saying Ethan had another great idea. We need to drive it over to this place and unwrap the stuff and put it away for these people that lost everything. And Granny can you buy them a house? All good thoughts Ethan but that is out of the realm of what we can do. But you are very kind to think about that. It was a very good learning experience for them. Sometimes people just need some help.

Donnawisdom : Losing every single thing is hard to comprehend as an adult. They won't forget the shopping experience and giving to help others.
Donnawisdom : This is such a great thing to teach your children, thank you for being Great parents! I always had my kids put a dollar away each week, and when Christmas came, I would add to their money, and buy toys for the toy drive through Humble Police Department. The kids would go with me, to buy, and they still remember doing this. Lasting memories and learning to be generous.
LittleTexas : Yeah you have to teach by doing. I guess I was amazed how much they wanted to think about what should go into the shopping carts.
