Hertz Rental Car- WARNING!
I saw this on one of my news threads.
It would be wise to do a good walk-around on a rental car and note any dings or dents before you drive away.
=======================================
Major rental car companies at airport locations used to be the best choice, despite higher taxes. They were high volume and didn't go looking too hard for nicks and scrapes. That's changing, and Hertz is ahead of others at this. As if Hertz hadn't fallen enough in customer experience, they're using AI to look for negligable damage to hit you with. They probably don't even fix the damage after they bill you for it (and perhaps don't notice it when the next renter leaves with the vehicle and charges them again for it?).
I recently rented a car from Hertz at IAH and upon 30 mins of dropping the car off, I received a text saying there was damage reported on the car with a $195 bill tacked on it. Upon taking a look at the pictures included, the "dent" they're referring to is negligible and even looks like a smudge to be quite honest.

We're going to need some laws on this one, I think. A certain amount of wear and tear - yes, including dings and dents - is implicit to their business model and should be priced into their rates. Doing what they are doing here is clearly predatory and deceptive.
We take pictures with our phone- front back , sides and interior including mileage- before and after that way if theres a dispute we have our own pics

In my working career, I probably rented hundreds of cars and I never paid attention to the dents and dings. But if I rented a car today, I'd do as you suggest and take pics of any damage.

I take a video of the car I accept, Before I drive off the lot. I make sure to video the surrounding area , too, so they can see I am on their property. It takes 20 minutes, but worth it, in light of this. I usually use Dollar Car Rental, and have had no problems with them.
I would have went up there and look at the car. I tell my kids when renting a car to house always take video and pictures of damage before and after.
