So I had an experience last week that I'm still trying to recove
So I had an experience last week that I'm still trying to recover from….maybe emotionally more than anything. I was coming down Northpark like I have a million times and as I passed the Kroger and that last entrance right by the exit of the green belt there, my eye caught what I thought looked like a body lying on the ground…I couldn't stop fast enough there so I turned around and sped back to that area. I thought no way could it be a body, it's probably a giant dog breed which also alarmed me. 😩 As I got back to go into the green belt, 2 or 3 high school aged kids rode right by me on their bikes as I approached. and they never stopped or said anything and so I thought, it's a lump of clothes or something. Then I saw long hair and a woman all dressed in black. And yes, I was shaking at this point. It's just shocking and there's no other way to describe it. It was indeed a body of a female so I grabbed my phone and walked closer. The body started to move. I said are you alright??!! She then looked up and said, "No! Call the cops! So I dialed 911. They came. I don't know what happened to her. She may have been on drugs or had a seizure, I don't know. But she was alive. After I got home…I began to process it all and I just couldn't believe kids that age never stopped to check on her, never said a word to me, just rode past her on their phones…and they literally had to ride around her unconscious body to get by. There's something really WRONG with that. I don't know that happens? Isn't 15 old enough to care about a body lying on the ground…?

MissAmericanPie : I'm sorry you had to witness that. But my kids will not be stopping for anyone. I've always told them if you see someone who may need help, you keep going and call 911. Don't stop.

MissAmericanPie : I get how that would bother you (potentially dead, or injured person lying there). 15 year-olds out, especially together on bikes, are about as aloof as a person could be. I'll also say that I would rather my young teenager call 911 and tell the police where to find the person, than bother / approach the person. Someone on drugs can have violent reactions to being disturbed.

buffaloglenn : Yeah but they didn't call. The cops said there were no other calls. They didn't even stop, or look like they just saw a dead person. It's bizarre to have no reaction. But you're right, they are extremely distracted.

MissAmericanPie : It sounds like the story of the Good Samaritan all over! God Bless You, my dear friend! Not to pat ourselves on the back, but we stopped one time for a similar situation and the guy was having a heart attack. Another time, the guy was just hit by a trucker (accidentally) and guy died instantly. It was pretty gruesome, but I held his head in my hands while another lady tried CPR. . It is good to stay safe, in a couple situation, it is better in a group if they were intending harm, but in an emergency, I just have to pray that we're doing the right thing. I kinda had a similar situation last week and it did bother me that I did nothing. I was sitting in my garage drinking a cold one and a guy about 40, scruffy talking to himself walked by pushing a grocery cart and was collecting stuff from recycle bins. I wondered if he had eaten or just needed a couple of bucks to get something, He looked up and just nodded and I did the same, but I didn't offer anything as he might figure me an easy target and start stopping regularly or maybe he was casing the houses on the block? I think 30 years ago I may have offered him a drink or sandwich. It's just a different cynical world now .

MissAmericanPie : I'm glad you were there to help, and I'll pray that the girl is ok, and for your peace of mind. Our DS is about that age and I would hope that he would call 911 if he saw someone hurt or in distress. But, I wouldn't want him to approach the person or get too close to the situation. That's just my personal feelings on that, and we've actually talked with him about something like this.

MissAmericanPie : I'm curious why she specified the cops. I don't expect injured people to think clearly, but if she had time to identify her immediate needs, it seems odd to specifically request law enforcement over medical assistance.
