Snakes! We saw a beauty swimming down the lake at George Mitchell Nature Preserve in The Woodlands today. Of course I did not have my phone to take a photo, dang it. It was shiny black with yellow bands. At first I thought Coral, but did not see any red on it. Anyone know what it could be? Right answer with a perfectly matching image, I will tip you 500 points.

Kaylagirl : it could be a garter snake. They like to hangout near water sources.
mellen : YES!! That is it, very beautiful!! I wonder why I could not find it on google? And I just searched it, and they are skilled swimmers, just like the one I saw today.

What was the size/length of the snake? There isn't a whole lot in this area that looks like that. chocolatemonkey has what I would have guessed - aberrant coral snake.

petronoluem : Not real wide, but fairly long, not super long. It looked just like @Mellen's pic. I just did not think about garter snakes swimming so well, and did not pull it up on a google search. If I had taken my phone cam I could have identified it. It was a very graceful swimmer and fun to watch.
