Soft start kit questions

I need to have a soft start kit installed on our 4 ton AC unit to reduce the load on our Generac when the AC starts up.

Would this be done by an Electrician? Or HVAC?

Anyone have any experience with doing this? Or local recommendations? I'd appreciate it!

I had my AC guy do it. It was pretty cheap to get done but he was here doing something else.

HVAC does it and unless you know how to discharge the electricity, I would let them do it. People die trying to handyman it.

My husband can fix anything but he refuses to touch electrical ****. (He knows his limits)

Our AC guy installed ours this week for pretty cheap.

StormChaser : I installed a MicroAir one. It was easy - took about 15 minutes and most of that was just figuring out where to put the soft starter in the condenser cabinet. You ground out the capacitor after turning off the breaker.

I'm guessing an AC guy would do it for you - they can't install one if your AC already has a hard start kit, and it may void your AC's warranty (if it's still under warranty).

I call Madd and it is $595 for part and installation. Gotta figure out how to install hook up for my portable generator.
