Two things just heard on PBS radio

Ruger5 : Who in their right mind would think this is funny? Houston's road/street/freeway system was not built for this many people living here.

CaffeineFree : Right? It's the direct population explosion right here in already land cramped KW. that irks me most. And there are thousands of apt dwellings going up on 59 for miles up the road. Side note - heard on talk radio that In ten years Houston will outnumber NYC in population 🤬🤨😝

Ruger5 : Well, that bites. It will just mean more sprawl. Most of these transplants haven't been through a major hurricane like Rita, Ike, or Harvey. Beryl was no 'Beryl' of fun, but that was a junior hurricane in comparison.

CaffeineFree : Indeed. I lived in Kingwood for a short time about 13 years ago, and travel between here and points south on 59 (at least until you got inside the loop) really wasn't bad. The current gridlock every morning and afternoon is just one sign of the overgrowth,

Ruger5: Have you seen the complex on 1960?

bigcity : I have not, bet it's huge. I'd be skeer'd to look. We are about to feel pinched and inconvenienced in ways we never imagined once thousands more vehicles are sharing our already cramped roadways and businesses. I predict a raised highway above 59 from north 59 all the way to south 59. Not in my lifetime, but it will come. It will have to.Edit to add- if we had been allowed to grow naturally, we'd be able to fit more comfortably into our new growth. This growth spurt has fell upon us so unnaturally we've had to scramble to accommodate the thousands pouring in from the south, the west and the north. So thankful the southern onslaught has been stopped but that will only make the pain level 5 instead of a 10. Still painful.

Ruger5: I'm more concerned with flushing the toilets.

bigcity : As in a burden to the sewage system?

Ruger5: Correct.

Ruger5 :
Problem is there is a lot of unused space around us. So they will build and fill the space with people. Prices of homes will go up. Which means for us more real estate taxes. We lose in trees and money. Not much we can do about it.

Ruger5 : #2....and they are all migrating to Kingwood!! Ugh.

cbear : I dont blame them there, but the Kingwood us old timers moved here to enjoy is no more. I am sad and mad and unsettled by Urban sprawl. I thank God I have a quiet, off the beaten path oasis that takes me away from the crowded highways, biways and businesses that I once enjoyed mixing with. Were it not for that I have no clue. Im not sorry we decided to live out our end of days here - 33 years of friendships, the memories of raising our children in this small town. I never envisioned a time there would be a lot less to love about this place, but here we are, dealing with circumstances beyond our desire and control. When I get overwhelmed a good vent does the trick 😂😂

Ruger5 : I have been in my home 23 years. Longest ever. It bothers me to see soooo many apartment complexes being built and I know that bothers you too.
