Can anyone tell me what Dogwood Acres is? I stumbled upon it this afternoon and the mountainous dump and big dogs scared me away. It's right next to Kingwood but is it Porter or Houston or what? Just curious. I've only lived up here two years, came from living in town all my life and I'm trying to figure out my surroundings and history up here.

It is kind of a forgotten area; hit hard in hurricane Harvey, most there did not try to recover, or had the financials to make repairs, etc, so it is quite a mess. Many of the structures are over 30 years old, and abandoned. Not a good area to be in, day or night.
It is not Kingwood, but on the Montgomery County line, so probably considered Porter. It has always been considered a verboten place in my 35 years here on the Kingwood, Harris County line.
HappyOne : They must be in humble ISD. When my daughter was at Riverwood, a girl came home with her to work on a project. After the project was done, I fixed their dinner. I kept offering to let her use the phone to call her parents but she declined. Finally, I said I was going to take her home. She directed where to go and it was dark, and we drove deep in that neighborhood and no street lights or house lights. She said here it is…and pulled up to a house that looked vacant…run down….no lights….just the big dogs. I told her I could not leave her here by herself….but she did not understand my concern. We waited like 15 min then a car drove in with several people in it who got out and headed to the house so she got out and went too. No one said introductions or what I was doing there or anything. I just kept imaging Deliverance music. It was so creepy. I drove back and had to be very careful to find the way out. I told my daughter that she was never going to their house. It's not just about being poor. I have a lot of poor people in my family but this was weird. My son said it was meth lab neighborhood. That was years ago but I'm not going back there again. I don't mean to offend anyone.
That's Dunnam Road... those are Kingwood addresses, they are in Harris County, and they are zoned to Shadow Forest Elementary, Riverwood Middle and Kingwood HS. They have a very nice private boat launch at the end of the road. The homes are mostly rather rundown but it might be all some folks can afford right now. I met some of the residents when we owned the laundromat... very nice folks.

QueenB : No, that's not Dunham Rd. Everyone is talking about Dogwood Acres, off of Dogwood Ln. It's a hidden "gem". Most people don't know about it, unless you know about it; however, they are zoned to the same schools.
