FYI- Memorial Hermann Kingwood is way expensive!! Down by HEB in the back, it calls itself a "Convenient Care Center" but they are actually an emergency room and they charge emergency room prices.

DH's chiropractor wanted him to have a simple x-ray of an ankle, we scheduled it a week ago, and the charge today was over $1000. We'll see if insurance will pay any of it as it wasn't an emergency.

Texasdad : Well that makes me wonder if there will be another emergency room bill for the radiologist to read it too.

QueenB :
I've had x-rays done there twice. This is who did and billed the x-rays "Memorial Hermann Imaging Center at Convenient Care Center in Kingwood" it is not part of the emergency room. And yes mine were expensive my last ones were $4 ,700. But all covered my medicare and secondary insurance.

mellen : DH went without me so when he brought home the bill I called them. The lady told me it is an ER and that's why it's so high. I try to avoid places that say emergency room but this one didn't. It said exactly what your bill said, convenient care center. I kinda feel hoodwinked but I suppose it's my fault for not knowing. I'll pay the bills but I won't schedule anything there again.

Kittle : Well that's good, so glad it was all covered for you! 😀 My 87 year-old mom has 100% coverage thru the old International Harvester company. She was one of the first women to work on the assembly line for the Scout so she got 100% insurance coverage for life.

GiggleMugs QueenB : They can charge any amount they want but will only get paid the allowable per the insurance carrier contract. I don't even look at amounts until insurance has paid and the difference is written off.

Yes, but if your insurance only pays $2k of the $10k charge, who pays?

QueenB : Yup, it took the Mrs. and I a bit of time to figure out exactly what that place was. It's easy to think it's a convenient care clinic but it's not. I can easily understand his confusion.

interesting. How do you know whether you walked into the "ER" part or the urgent care part?
I usually just go to the Urgent Care on Lake Houston PKWY close to Chase Bank and the library, if I can't get into my primary care. Their x-rays aren't any where near that price. (Used to go to the one on NP, until I needed x-ray and they no longer did x-rays).

msuz : You have to ask because the names on the building don't always disclose. Ask before handling over your CC.

My husband went there and has Medicare and supplement plan G. We paid his yearly deductible of 250 and everything else was covered the rest of the year.

QueenB : Sneaky, sneaky. I took a relative there and I must say they did a good job but I'm sure it was pricey.

The urgent care on WLHP by Kings Crossing xrayed my broken wrist and set me up with a cast for $260. It's amazing the difference in prices out there. They do a good job. The same doc has been there for years.
