Those poor people. 155mph winds is a Category 5 so that's pretty much what they got.

Damage will be catastrophic.

Oh my goodness! That's horrific. Praying for those poor people. How does one prepare for 155 mph winds?

I talked to a guy in Martinique right after they had had a hurricane hit. He was about 20 years old and he said he was never so scared in his life. Those small islands really don't have a lot of experience with these storms.

StormChaser : OMG! I once watched a video on the weather channel of a man doing through that. It looked like the skin on his face was about to be pulled off!

It is a monster storm! Those poor people have no where to go to avoid it. My heart goes out to them. I really hope this is not a harbinger of this year's hurricane season!

Sadly I don't think there is really any preparation they could do. Plus, it intensified so quickly too.

Where do you go when on an island?
I pray for them. I can't imagine the stress they must be feeling.

I know. That is the issue, there is nowhere for them to go. They just have to ride it out. That is what makes it so heartbreaking.

I wouldn't wish a hurricane on anyone but especially islanders. It's not just the wind it's the storm surge driven by the wind. I had a friend who wanted to buy property on an island- I told him Good Luck with that. The flooding from Harvey cured me of wanting to live close to the beach or on an island

I'd much rather live out in the sticks.

WTF :
And I'd rather live half way out in the sticks which I may have achieved here🤣🤣🤣. We got coyotes, loose cattle, 2 lost horses ( just this weekend), a couple of bighorn sheep and a watusi steer running amok from time to time. I heard a peacock on one of my walks last month.

Preparedness for 150 mph winds is impossible for the islanders and they don't have evacuation options. Should we in Kingwood face similar conditions, what could we do as far as protecting our houses? We could flee further inland but no way could we protect our possessions. It's unlikely we will experience that level winds but houses/roofs can be destroyed by lesser winds. Possessions are less and less valuable to me.

StormChaser : Prayers for all those island and places in the path of that horrible storm. They have the technology to zap that storm from space with a laser & make it less powerful. Why dont they do it ?

Kittle : Not much. I bought plywood last week for my large bay windows.

That's about all you can do here - except leave. (HELL NO lol)

IF a storm comes into to Galveston with 160mph winds, and we're on the dirty side, we would easily see 100mph sustained winds here.

Weathergirl5 : Yeah there was nothing to do. A lot of tourists were trapped in Granada on vacation and didn't get out.

Winds are currently gusting to over 200mph - if it doesn't calm down (like it was already supposed to do) Jamaica is going to be wiped off the map by this thing.
