Jaggar Smith, the former KHS teenager who was driving drunk and his 2 teen female passengers were killed in an accident , has received his sentence after pleading guilty. The sentence is 10 years probation and 120 days in jail broken out over 10 years including being in jail on the anniversary of the death of his two passengers. This is according to ABC 13 news.

I wonder what the families of the 2 girls think of this sentence. If it was me, I would have wanted him to receive an extended stay in prison.

goldie :
That is a strange sentence. There is no good resolution to a tragedy that should have never happened, but it did. I wonder how the victims themselves would react if they could: would they be forgiving or demand a harsher punishment? Hmmm

goldie : does he feel the guilt and remorse for his actions? He should also have to do community service by telling teens about what happened, what he feels daily and stress to them, drinking and driving is unnecessary, and flat out stupid. Regardless of the age of the offender, drunk driving is unnecessary.

What a joke. A better punishment would have been no probation or jail time but forced to speak about the dangers of drinking and driving at the local high schools on the anniversary of this accident for the next 10 years.

This really wasn't justice serve.d He hasto serve 40 days in jail until I think they said for two years and then five days around the anniversary of the death so that he never forgets it. Well, I'm sure down the line he'll go to court and have that removed. It just doesn't seem fair.

I can't even imagine what the families of those girls must be going through right now... Drunk driving is unacceptable! His punishment is very light...

Gammyof2 : You are right! He should have to do community service by telling teens about what happened for the rest of his life. It only seem fair he should get to relive it very often as the girls families relive it all daily.

goldie: I don't know how he was charged, but vehicular manslaughter carries a penalty of 2 to 20 years in prison plus a fine. Regardless, his sentence is certainly a miscarriage of justice.

AstrosFan8080 : It sends a pretty clear message we don't value life in this culture. Is that ALL TWO young lives are worth when snuffed out at 16??

I think there is room for forgiveness but that is the family's call. And I think a more appropriate jail time is also doable simultaneously.

goldie : I know a guy who was driving drunk here in KW and he got 10 years in prison. It seems like it's been about that long but I know he has stayed in prison and has not been released for good behavior. He will spend the entire 10 years there. In all reality 10 years is nothing in comparison to the life lost.

Jaggar Smith is getting off very light. It just does not seem right to me!

Probably has a lot to do with how much $$ was spent resulting in such a farce of a sentence.
