Isn't it too hot to be pouring concrete?

If it's too hot the concrete cures too quickly and becomes brittle.

Maybe there's some new formulation that is more heat resistant.

dan4182 : Back in the day, when I worked for the highway department as an intern, our concrete mix company used ice in the mixer to reduce the concrete temperature at time of pour. Once it's poured and set, heat will just make it cure faster than the 3 weeks it might normally take. Now they put additives for faster cure (like 3 to 7 days) so it should be ok once it gets poured and finished.

Kemibe : Thanks for the update. Next they need to repair again at 494 and Hamblen. When coming back into Kingwood on Hamblen, hang close to the middle barricade right at the tracks. All the use has caused the asphalt to crumble on the south side right at the tracks and if you are too far to the right, you may hit a drop off.

cbear : I'll feel better when they actually complete this 3+ year project.

What they need to do is extend the 4 lanes up past big Kroger, but not if it takes another 3+ years to do it!

Kemibe : It's only been going on what, 4-5 years now? Be patient, they tell us. It'll only be 5 more years. It makes me laugh, all the ridiculous excuses they come up with - permit problems, issues dealing with two counties, issues dealing with the railroad company, and on and on. How about you geniuses get all this resolved BEFORE you break ground???? Just a thought. Maybe it's me.......

dan4182: There is. There would have to be due to hot weather here. Just like in the winter in Ohio where my hubby used to drive a concrete truck. They poured in very cold weather.
