The Kolache Shoppe in the HEB Center has unfortunately closed. From their FB page:

As we embarked on this franchise journey, we knew it would involve taking risks and encountering a few bumps in the road along the way. With the opening of our Kingwood franchise, we faced numerous challenges that ultimately hindered our ability to perform well in that market. Therefore, after careful consideration, we, along with the Kingwood franchisees, made a difficult decision and have closed that location. However, we firmly believe that failures serve as valuable learning experiences and we have embraced this challenge as an opportunity to grow. Looking ahead, we are filled with anticipation for the future. We are excited to announce that another new location is on the horizon, and we can't wait to share the details with you soon.

Your unwavering loyalty has been the driving force behind our success, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support. We are here to serve you at our Greenway and Heights locations and, very soon, at our brand-new Pearland location! 💙

goldie : Sorry to see a business not make it. I am not a fan of these either and only ate one of these moving here and have never had another. I wish this business well at new location.

In order for a kolaches-only vendor to survive, they have to have a steady business of larger, to-go orders. Kolache Factory does a booming business, all over Houston, because they put themselves in the middle of heavy business areas, so people can take a box full to work, or cater for business conferences. Selling a few at a time, here and there, won't sustain them long.

Kuntry Bakery in Schulenburg kills it. Town of about 2500 people and the place has been open for at least 30 years. They serve primarily kolaches, but also do other things. Kolaches are unbelievably delicious there. Not many days I'd miss this place when I lived there. They are that good.

goldie : That's sad. We liked going there for pick up's on our way out of town. I told dh just two weeks ago - the last time were there - that I didn't think they would make it. Personally I wasn't a fan of their offerings, but dh raved about them. He will be sad to see this.

goldie : Thanks for sharing. I really liked the bacon and cheese kolaches and the cream cheese one. They had the best yeast dough. Not greasy like donut places. I'm sorry they were not getting the business.

StormChaser : I think they had an ad on the back of the H-E-B receipt recently. But you are right, other than that I'm not aware of any advertisements for them. I don't think they were even open a year
