My home owner's insurance company has approved to cover my home'

My home owner's insurance company has approved to cover my home's roof but not the detached garage roof. Indeed my home roof is in much worse condition, But the garage shingles have become unglued with trash laying underneath them after close to 20 years and they need to be replaced as well to match the home's new shingles. Of course, the HOA will not allow me to leave the old roof on my garage that will not match my new roof that is planned for the house. And for once I agree with the HOA , however, it seems like it will be at my expense to have it replaced at this point. Has anyone else had a similar issue and figured out how to handle this type of challenge?

How old is the roof on your house? Insurance will not cover a roof that needs to be replaced due to age. .

Insurance needs to get up there and count the damaged ones... if it's a certain number- they "must replace it". Had my roofer go up there with the adjuster...😂 won!

@mutton : it is about 19 years old. But with all the shingles that blew off of my home this year, we feel that the raised shingles on the garage was from the wind also. Unfortunately, my garage does not have the covered walkway attaching it to the house also.

@sfa1tx : It is a smaller auto insurance company "State Auto". I had all kinds of issues with State Farm so I thought for the first time, I would go with a smaller company, which I think State Auto is still better than State Farm, or let me say the State Farm agent that I used to have (not mentioning any names though). But she did not let me change anything on my policy after I initially set it up. She always had some sort of an excuse. Very sad - and I was with them about 20 years before finally moving on...

@lola : 19 years old, The roofers and I feel strongly that the wind had a lot to do with its issues. The roof on my home got really messed up with it.

@mare567 : An adjuster came out and we all thought we were on the same page but never saw what he turned in. I don't think I have his phone number anymore. I would feel better if I heard it from him though, since he was a sub-contractor they called out. That might be a good idea - for me to look him up and ask him what his real opinion was.
However, my roofer went back up and took a lot of pictures himself and sent them to the insurance company and got nowhere fast.
Since the damage was not as bad as the home - I could see getting a lower percentage back on the garage for sure, but not nothing at all. That is just wrong.

@cinlou829, call your insurance company tomorrow and tell them exactly that. Let them know your roofer sent pictures and you really shouldn't have to be calling after they saw the pictures.
