Florida is fun to visit but I could never live there, my dad, aunt and cousin did and I have a brother there but I'd never go there without having family there.

I grew up around the horse farms in Kentucky and it's gorgeous. I'd pick Kentucky or Tennessee if I had to leave Texas.

No way could I ever live in California, they think they have wildfire problems now, I'd be tempted to torch that place every day if I had to live there. 😂 4951

@Marhopper3 : You mention "around the horse farms", so I'm guessing you grew up somewhere in the bluegrass region surrounding Lexington? My family is from Clark County! I'll forever love Winchester, but I don't know if I could ever move back to Kentucky after living in larger cities for so long now! 4951

@BostonAC : Me too! I lived there until I was 24, met and married a native Texan, so here I am still, almost 33 years later. 4951

@BostonAC : I lived between Louisville and Lexington in Shelby County. My mom grew up in Lexington and my youngest son is at UofK. My parents met while attending Transylvania University in the 50's. 4951

@Marhopper3 : I only lived there until I was about 5, but I lived in 7 different states by the age of 14, so Kentucky was always the constant in my life as regardless of where we lived we always went back to visit my grandparents. 4951

@Marhopper3 : I always thought of Shelby County as slightly closer to Louisville than Lexington. Hahahaha I've driven through there, but I've never really spent much time there. While about a quarter of my family is from New England, about 62% is Kentuckian. Of the Kentuckian portion of my ancestry, about a quarter is from the Eastern Kentucky mountains and the rest (37%) of my ancestry is from Central Kentucky. 4951

My grandparents retired to Lake Cumberland, Jamestown, I spent many years there also and it's an absolutely gorgeous area of Kentucky/Tennessee. 4951

@Marhopper3 : I don't know if I've ever been to Cumberland Lake, but I've definitely driven down the Cumberland Parkway once or twice. We always went to the lake either at Cave Run in Morehead or Laurel Lake in Corbin. 4951

@Marhopper3 : But I've definitely made that dreadfully long drive taking 59 N all the way to Texarkana, 30 to Little Rock, 40 to Nashville, 65 to Elizabethtown and the Gov Martha Layne Collins Bluegrass Parkway into Lexington. (Yes you could just say Bluegrass Parkway but I think Gov Collins was a good Governor in Ky history so I always say the full name). 4951

@BostonAC : Shelby county is closer to Louisville than Lexington but when I'm trying to give someone an idea of my location, it's easier to use the bigger cities than the smaller ones.

If y'all buy sausage and it's Purnells, I went to high school with all those kids. They're from Simpsonville, in Shelby County, I doubt anyone knows where Simpsonville is tho. 😂

The horse farms have spread out and there are some amazing ones in Shelby County. I also went to school with the Crabtree kids and they are famous breeders/trainers. 4951

@Marhopper3 : I know where Simpsonville is- even closer to Louisville! Hahahaha. Just kidding. Winchester of course is home to Ale-8, which I think they made Kentucky's official Soft Drink a few years back. Kentucky does have an interesting regional cuisine. The people there are also very proud of Kentucky, and across the state they all cheer for UK. It's something you'd have to be from there to understand!

I understand referencing by large cities. I usually tell people I'm from Lexington, because they've usually heard of Lexington. I mean, they built Hamburg on the East side of Lexington too so Winchester people are over in Lexington all the time anyway. 4951

@BostonAC : I actually knew Martha Layne Collins, I did some of her PR photography, she was a tough cookie.

I drive that way to visit my son, he drives here twice a year for summer and Christmas vacations when he wants his truck here. He flies in tho if he's just coming in for an Aggie football game. He can't drive past the pyramid Bass Pro Shop in Memphis without stopping in tho. 😂 4951

@Marhopper3 : That is very interesting that you actually knew Martha Layne Collins. I've always respected her. I've always heard it be said that she brought Toyota to Kentucky! 4951
