Family Tree Has anyone used ancestry.com or similar software, which do you think is best?
@Tex17 : I stayed up way late several nights recently glued to the ancestry app. I think the app is easier to use than the website. A few days ago I called my Nana joking that I was stalking her online! She was actually asking ME questions about her early years.
Her family moved around a lot because her dad worked for the railroad. I was able to pull up a phonebook page that showed that the year my grandma was born my great grandma was living in an apartment in Galveston! We go to Galveston a lot and love it... we almost bought a place on the strand there a few years ago to live there full time.
I had never known this story! This was in the 1930s and 40s...
Anyway, I traced back one line to the 1700s. My 3rd great grandfather was born in Paris and came to New Orleans at a young age. I got engaged in New Orleans... so I thought that was really neat, too.
Get ready to fall down a rabbit hole. If I open that app right now, I'll be up until 3am again. Oh, and I didn't buy anything. When you click on the 'hints' a pop-up ad will show to try to get you to pay for a membership, but if you click again the docs will show. A lot of it is public information anyway... 4951
