I finally caved and used a sinus rinse for the first time. 3 globs of green snot later, I do feel like I can breathe a bit better. I told my husband it's a good thing we are already married because he walked in on me doing it and I'm 90% sure I looked wonderful with snot dripping down my face 4951

@Weathergirl5 : Thanks. I normally don't have this big of an issue with allergies. But this pollen is just killing me. I typically never get sick but I think I jinxed myself this time. 4951

@Mermaid35 : I do this once daily. I have to due to allergies. I rarely have a sinus infection. 4951

@808 : I tried doing it a few days ago and started gagging and crying. I definitely wasn't doing it right. Today I tried again and I feel I was pretty successful. Hubby and I used the NeilMed one 4951

It does take some getting used to. I use the Neilmed too. I’ve been doing sinus rinses for 23 years. 4951

@Mermaid35 : I'm with you. The pollen is awful and no rain to get rid if it. 4951

@808 : I think my husband should start doing it daily. His allergies are always awful, even during the winter months. 4951

@Mermaid35 : My ENT and allergy docs both strongly recommend doing, if not daily rinses, then every other day. For me, it’s like giving your sinus passages a shower. 4951

@808 : works great, at first you think youre drowning. just tip your head to either side when squirting up one nostril. its only salt water and that's what we are made of. 4951

If you make your own solution, be sure your water is safe -- that is, boil it and then let it cool. And be sure your container, maybe a neti pot? is also really clean. 4951

@HappyHerself : Boiled cooled water is recommended, as is distilled water. I use distilled since it’s more convenient. My ENT recommends the Neilmed bottle over the neti pot since the bottle gets the saline solution into the frontal sinuses better. 4951

@808 : I wasn't familiar with Neilmed and will look into it. I do have a neti pot but haven't used it in years -- too awkward, and I had to run the neti pot in the dishwasher to be sure it was clean plus doing the careful water prep. But I really do think sinus rinses are a good thing. 4951
