Ever try coconut oil pulling? Not sure why it is called that but it's basically using coconut oil as mouthwash.

Coconut oil pulling is one of the best ways to remove bacteria and promote healthy teeth and gums. In fact, it’s been proven to be even more effective than flossing, and it’s one of the best ways to naturally whiten your teeth.

Coconut oil I picked some up a few weeks ago and have been enjoying using it sparingly to cook with. Not a lot and not often. Mostly I cook with olive oil, occasionally butter or when I am really bad bacon grease! It is high in saturated fat, but also can raise your good (HDL) cholesterol. Recently I ran out of moisturizer for my hair and put some in my hair. It makes it soft with a little shine. Also works well on my dry hands after a long day of cooking and constantly washing them or during cold weather. I had no idea you could use it on so many things.

@Weathergirl5 : Never tried it n my hair, do you wash it out in the shower or leave it in? I have used it on my legs and feet and nails and it does act like a nice lotion. 4951

@HappyDay2016 : I use it in DD hair about once a month. I wash her hair and then leave the coconut oil in. Next day I'll just put her hair in a ponytail because it'll be very greasy and then wash it out that night. Takes a few good washes to get it fully out but it'll be much better after the first wash. 4951

I found the trick to rinsing it out of my hair is to work a little shampoo all the way through my dry hair first before getting it wet in the shower. That way the shampoo has a chance to break up the oil so the water doesn’t just get repelled and then you end up with greasy hair. Then you add like a handful of water and work that through so the shampoo can lather up just a little bit. Rinse real good and then wash/condition your hair again like your normally would. 4951

@Weathergirl5 : its great as a moisturizer. If you have arthritis, it can be mixed with lavendar esential oil and rubbed into affected joints. Its great 4951

@ladydane : Good to know. My mom has a bit of arthritis, so I will pass this tip on to her. Thanks! By the way I love the way both coconut oil and lavender smell. 4951

@Weathergirl5 : sorry, i got it wrong. The product for arthritis applied externally to the skin is a mixture of wintergreen, clove and another essential oil for the arthritis. The coconut oil and essential lavendar oil (ingestible kind) is for calming and soothing ... you put a couple of drops of lavendar oil and mix w the coconut oil and drink the mixture. I didn't care for the taste but it works as good as valium and its organic 4951

@monyhoney : I have done this, but it's really hard to find the time. It never fails, the phone won't ring all day, but as soon as I start someone calls, or one of the kids comes up with the most important question in the world. 4951
