I doubt any of us will be going back. Probably going to be shut down. I never saw him there.

NeenaC0629 : I don't know. He has a lot of little cronies who defend him relentlessly who might keep him in business. Some of the friends are even calling this a "regular a** mistake" and spewing that he's "innocent until proven guilty". I'm sorry, a fender bender is a regular mistake. Sexual assault is a conscious decision that ruins lives. The two are not even in the same realm. I'd been to Swamp Donkies plenty and every time I went the owner/ accused was absolutely hammered drunk.

Heathur : Agreed at 15 bucks a pound Id rather eat gulf shrimp.

ZMAN : Only a moron would pay that for crawfish anyway. If you absolutely just had to have crawfish, just go buy some frozen Chinese crawfish at HEB.

Yeah, South LA got hammered by the drought like we all did down here last Summer. Most of the ponds dried up killing all the grass so the crawfish really had no place to burrow pretty well nuking most of their crop and the ones that did make it are gonna be small. Oh and this freeze isn't gonna help matters either.

I guess I stand corrected. I've never seen a crawfish farm toward the Gulf…. Only close to lakes where the farmers can pump water to the fields if needed

DH & I get crawfish at least once a week during season.

Heathur :

It might be time for you and DH to get a propane burner and an 80 qt pot. Once a week can add up if you're paying other people to cook them. It's easy enough to do yourself and hard to get it wrong. It will likely pay for itself this season.

Once a week is impressive … and pricey.

If you haven't cooked a sack on your own, it might be time to start. A sack is usually about 30 pounds (so
invite some friends or family).

Spork : I knowww. We've been talking about getting a setup for at least a year now. Weekly crawfish once a week was just our little date night ritual for DH & I. We even had a waitress at one place who knew our order off the top of her head bc we were there so much. 😂 One of our best friends has a nice setup so we'll go to their place a couple of times a season for a boil every year but you're right, we need to bite the bullet to get our own. Any suggestions for a good one?

Just thinking offhand. Chicken wire, duck tape, zip ties, cinder blocks, and a short drive to a shallow coastal swamp to harvest early season crawfish. 🤔

Heathur:
For a burner, it would depend how fast you want the water to boil and how quiet you want it to be. A banjo burner is slower and more quiet. Jet burners are louder and faster. You can also get double jets for more speed.

I use a double jet for nostalgic reasons. It sounds like a crawfish boil. I tried a banjo burner and it seemed to take too long and left me longing for the roar of maximum BTUs.

But if I had to buy a new one for myself right now, I would probably buy this one:

It comes at a stiff price though.

Maybe try seeing if you can start with a used one (FB marketplace or similar)

Edited: it might also be worth getting a banjo burner if you anticipate cooking jambalaya or frying outside.

Wooderson : What are your other go-to spots? We like Overalls, like Mudbugs, I think Crawfish Shack is super good but overrated (I'm not waiting 45 min for bugs lol). Crawfish Kings was just aight but not enough flavor.

Heathur : yea Mud Bugs for me as well. Also Tin Cup on Sundays!
