I have to laugh at all the misinformation in this thread. Pines live HUNDREDS of years. I helped a buddy cut one down a few years ago that was 96 years old when it got hit by lightning. Plus, the vines, if they are so bad for the trees then why aren't they dead already? I have lived in KW since 1977 and the vines have been here longer than me!! Has anyone ever driven through southern Mississippi? Those vines are everywhere and have been as far as I can remember. No proof, but I heard they started clearing them because they found a homeless encampment in carved out in the vines. And like anything the government does they spend too much and do a crappy job. Now its a mess and the vines are starting to grow back because the roots were not pulled.

#msg6024315anonymous : We are strongly opposed to this initiative. The Kingwood medians are not "neglected and overgrown." They were left deliberately in a natural state to give the feeling of a forest community. This is (or used to be) "The Livable Forest", not the livable park or golf course. Leave the medians alone!
Clearing out the vines and underbrush from the medians does not make Kingwood The Unlivable Forest. In my opinion it only enhances the beauty of the area. Keep doing it Fred…
KrogerMom reacted #msg6020852Kingwood Drive medians are being cleared What do you think about the clearing of the forest in the median of Kingwood Drive ....as well as Northpark, Woodland Hills and Lk Hou Pkwy? There's an ongoing effort by the City of Houston and others to do much more of this. If you are opposed to it, you can go to Change.org and sign a petition called "Stop the deforestation of Kingwood's forests". You can also write an email to Frederick.Flickinger and Twila.Carter ( houstontx.gov) in opposition of this. They need to hear your voices!
