Gigix4:

Who is going to be responsible to ensure kiddos check books in and out appropriately?

Gigix4:
Jesus. How long have I been gone? What year is this?

Kids still do that ole timey stuff?

Is searching for paper books a skill kids even need to have anymore?

I thought libraries are where homeless people go to sleep and expose themselves to librarians who get paid to post on social media all day.

Having taught for over 30 years, I offer a bit of a different perspective-A disruptive student can keep an entire class from learning. I only removed one student in all of my years, but it was necessary for the other students (fyi-he never caused another problem). We've all heard horror stories about some of the discipline problems in the Houston schools. This might be a necessary step to ensure the rest of the students can learn. I'm guessing that in the beginning, those discipline centers could be crowded, but hopefully things improve quickly. As much as I hate to see the elimination of libraries, it might be a partial solution for all the problems in HISD

I agree. It is hard to teach with one disruptive student and even more so with more than one. Desperate times lead to desperate measures. Hopefully this will be short lived though.

Now the kids at these schools will have to go to the disciplinary instead of the library. Sad that they have come to this juncture.

Lulu45 : They said this morning the libraries will still be open. But will be very small condensed area. There are no librarians so kids can check out books through the honor system.

So we need to transform the Kingwood Library into a discipline unit for Kingwoodian non blinker using offenders , moral grocery buggy offenders and prolly allow the HOA send some home owners for a good time out as well

jv339 : Kids that check books out through honor system may never bring the books back. They need a time set and probably a note to remind them time to bring books back. Wont be happening now

luv2eatsushi : The best plan would be for him to sit in a teachers classroom for a day. So different when one is in a classroom observing a regular day filled with students and teachers.
