Professionals/master gardeners all agree that decapitating Crape Myrtles is Crape Murder! It creates ugly, knobby "knuckles" and weak spindly tops. They are so ugly after being chopped. Proper pruning allows the trees to grow and create gorgeous bark. I drive around this time of year and could just cry. Your yardmen may not know any better; do a little research.

Well, they will get some new branch shoots, but not much more, for a few years. They bloom on new growth, but that is like the time you got the Worst haircut Ever, right before picture day, at school!
