Police on horses in Kingwood!

So many people here have lost the plot. No they're not expensive, their lifetime costs are roughly the same amount of money a squad car costs, only a police horse is retired in 15 years as opposed to 3-5 years like the car is.

That makes them ~3X more economical than the car.

They're not about chasing and apprehending criminals.
They're about having an officer 9' in the air for better visibility and for having them on an imposing enough "vehicle" that crowds will naturally give way to, yet friendly enough to not be some war machine roaming through the festival or streets.

They provide enough physical presence to deter crime, while maintaining a natural ability for officers to get deep inside of a crowd rapidly.I think it would be helpful for some of you to pause first and google things for a moment so that when you comment on something, it isn't as impulsive or misaligned with reality.It's beneficial to the conversation overall if all participants hold a minimum standard of knowledge on the discussion to prevent myopic responses from piling up.

I completely agree with you. but, do remember that expressing opinions here in a respectful manner, Is what we do. Many did not grow up with horses, so have no idea of what their care, etc entails. We can inform without disparaging, and do that pretty well here. We cannot tell others How they may come to decide, or embrace ,their opinion.

I've had a total of five horses in my life. I loved every one of them. I wouldn't have had it any other way! 🐴 I appreciate the "work" that they do as police horses.

LittleTexas : Ok - I have a friend with three horses right now. I could buy a brand new ATV for the money he spends each year on the horses. I think horses are pretty too, but unless someone is volunteering their time, and feed, to care for the horses, there is no way it would make economic sense to use them over ATV's, unless the purpose is show, rather than policing.
