MissAmericanPie : The question I responded to was about the age a child can be left unsupervised. A child incapable of caring for themselves, toileting and feeding, would fall into the neglect category.

[What is neglectful supervision?

Answer: When children are not adequately supervised, it may be considered "neglectful supervision".

Neglectful supervision means "placing a child in or failing to remove a child from a situation that a reasonable person would realize requires judgment or actions beyond the child's level of maturity, physical condition, or mental abilities and the person's blatant disregard for the consequences of the act or failure to act results in bodily injury or immediate danger of harm to the child."

Neglectful supervision is also defined as "placing a child in or failing to remove the child from a situation in which the child would be exposed to a substantial risk of sexual conduct harmful to the child."]

cbear : Back then (in the 80s) we didn't have the police station but they knew all the constables by name. We also had a weekly free newspaper that listed on the 2nd page every arrest or citation that occurred in KW. If a teen received a MIP citation it would be in the paper and everyone knew about it. There would be about 10 listed every week. But I think our kids had more independence back then and were certainly outside a lot more. We didn't have cell phones to check up on them so we depended on each other(parents) to keep tabs on each other's kids. The nice thing was that we got to be friends with the other parents through our kids and I think we were a lot less isolated than parents are now. My son thinks he had the ideal childhood growing up here even if it sounds a bit feral compared to today's helicopter parenting.

teatime : I will add, crime was probably alot less back i n the 80's too.

Does NOT deserve the title "Mother". IMO.

The child was evaluated by EMS and released to his father in good health. Child Protective Services was notified and briefed on the incident.

cbear : I can't believe this was not reported to Child Protective Services.

eighteen : Yeah and she did a good job of neglect. It's just bizarre to see parent abuse their own flesh and blood. Sociopaths.

MissAmericanPie : I'm sure it's because she didn't immediately return upon the officer's request.

I think it's a little hard to judge the situation so harshly without more details. The kid obviously knew how to get ahold of his Mother, which is more than I can say for teens who don't know their parents number.
