GoodOlBoy1776 : Maybe ask them if you can help them? I don't believe when we were younger we thought- when I grow up I want to be homeless, have a mental illness, or a drug addict. If the trash is the biggest problem - I bet they'd they probably clean it up if asked nicely and respectfully. However, the bigger concern for me is seeing someone in need and shaming them for their circumstances- regardless if their situation is self imposed or not! See a need meet the need. Kindness isn't hard and we can all choose it!

goodmojoe : How do you know they're in need? Are you judging? Someone else opined they could be workers connected to the truck in the background. Why should a grown adult have to be asked politely to pick up their trash? So, the business owner isn't allowed to have needs or to have people respect her business? Interesting.

Oh, of course! Because who really cares if they need anything? That's truly the essence of it all. If they're "workers," then why bother? Just give them a shout from afar while they're nestled on that delightful concrete slab - must be a five-star sleeping arrangement! I mean, who wouldn't want to check in with "Are you ok?" when clearly they're as cozy as can be? And if they're all, "I'm fine!" then just casually toss out a request like, "Could you, please, do my bidding and clean up the mess you made?" Because obviously, that's the most logical thing to do! Sure, screaming and demanding might stir up some camaraderie, right?

And hey, did the business owner get the magic results they were looking for from that oh-so-effective post? If that little digital gem fixed everything - then truly, huzzah and all that jazz! Judging? Oh, please, I never even hinted at such a radical thought. Life being fair? What a joke! Honestly, is it really too much to ask if someone's okay or needs help? It baffles me why anyone would struggle with the concept of kindness.

GoodOlBoy1776 : Subway could write off as advertising a free sub but then word would get around subway was giving out free food to the homeless. The store would have every homeless person within 10 miles go to that store.

>> I find it very annoying when businesses do this. I find no reason to take pictures of homeless people and mock them on the internet. This subway store should be ashamed that their staff and managers have zero issue with public shame. So shameful.

GoodOlBoy1776 : Here's what I think is shameful and "annoying". When the rights of the homeless are placed above the rights of those who have to live amongst the filth, chaos, crime, etc that invariably comes along with them. It's also shameful and "annoying" when the rights of this person who owns that Subway, who pays a high rent on that property, pays salaries for people who actually work for a living, and has likely sunk a significant amount of his or her life's savings into it to make a honest living and contribute to her community can't do so because a significant number of potential customers won't walk past this motley looking group to enter the store. THAT'S what's "shameful" and "annoying". You can't possibly be serious.

justanirishgirl : I am sensible and therefore I rolled my eyes at that comment. I would have for others but only highlighted the one individual who automatically believe the original post/story. Well. I don't. Looking at the photo, I believe they were workers and if you look at the items, it appears there was even a fountain drink from Subways (interesting huh?). There was also a lunch bag on top of the bench. Also back in August there was construction at the old HEB as well as the front strip. Bottom line I don't believe the post and those who went on a rant about homelessness on this thread only did so because they found an excuse to pile on. Now if those workers did leave trash, that is understandable to be upset

GoodOlBoy1776 :
Ok, I see that it has already been said more or less by other people, but I wanted to comment on it anyway. First, I don't see any mocking going on, and second -the only person who mentioned "homeless people" is you. Yes, I agree that taking their pic and posting it online is wrong. But, I feel that the business owner has every right to complain if there are people littering and loitering on her property, especially if it is affecting her business.

I get resting your laurels in the shade when working outside. I've had many jobs that kept me on the road. When I ran my hotshot company and between deliveries in Arizona's hot sun, the last place I wanted to eat my lunch was in my truck. I also couldn't afford a decent lunch in ac. I'd get my food and find a shady area or park. Sometimes it was a businesses bench. Anything but being in my truck. However I think it's more about the trash being left and being sprawled out on the pavement.
Yuk!
First pick up after yourself, the world's not here to serve you and you have one mamma and I ain't it.
Second yuk yuk yuk yuk gag me. Who the **** lays on the pavement where people spit, and lord knows what all those tires rolled over and left. Just ******* yuk.
So I think the pic is more about the low class rudeness. They would only leave their trash once with me. I don't let city workers etc leave their trash in my yard. I've confronted over it. With an extended trash bag, or a finger pointing to my trash can. I didn't pick it up.

If you are a grown *** adult sleeping on the sidewalk you are likely either a drug addict, a lazy deadbeat or a small percentage suffering mental illness. Shame on city leaders for not figuring this out.
