LittleTexas sweetie :
That's crazy that she just left her purse there! I admit I see people do that all the time at the grocery store but usually they're not too far away from the purse. All it takes is a second though for someone to steal a credit card or even a purse. I'm glad you were looking out for her and hopefully she learned a lesson.

Just a suggestion....a fanny pack around your waist is the one of the best solutions. You have hands free and not on your shoulder (another way criminals can grab your purse and might even assault you to get it off your shoulder). They have multi-pocketed ones that have a clip and you can lengthen/shorten it as appropriate. I love mine with 5 pockets. No one messes with me or my fanny pack and I carry. Amazon has lots of choices to select from.

Weathergirl5 :
they also do it while loading their groceries into their vehicle, in the parking lot. It takes onesecond (that fast!) for someone to lift your things and never break stride. Erghhhhh!

teatime :
some places are starting to put a sideways hook on the left of the stall, halfway down the wall, inside the stall. No way they can reach in, and grab. I have seen it at 2 airports and one nice restaurant, lately,. Hopefully,it will catch on!

Lulu45 : And I was told to do away with the cross overs. If they try to grab and run you will get hurt if it does not break away easily. You will get dragged!

LittleTexas :
That is totally insane - walking away or having it out of your line of vision makes no sense. For shopping I use a small crossbody large enough for keys, cards, and phone leaving my hands free for shopping while protecting my valuables.

Just another suggestion. When I traveled to The Netherlands a few years ago, I was told to get one of those flat, small holders with an adjustable belt that are worn under clothing with access to my visa book, credit cards and other identification for maximum protection. Of course, I wore skirts and tops over my skirts so I could access this document holder from under my top without too much inconvenience.

I have started only buying pants and shorts that have side pockets. I then put my cell phone in the pocket with about 3 cards in it. I have small purses I used to use but this is just on my body and not easily taken out. I guess this is the way we live now.

At La Madeline's in Kingwood. Be careful with your purse! " A person was eating at La Madeline in Kingwood when she had her wallet stolen out of her purse that was hanging from her chair. She found that suspects below had used all her cards including her church's debit card. The suspects racked up a total of over $5,000. One suspect even used the churches debit card that the complainant had due to her being a church employee. Now not only is she out of thousands of dollars but the church is out of money as well. This is camera footage of the two suspects who used the Peep's cards at Marshall's in Summerwood which is near by the la Madeline in Kingwood. The Peep also confirmed that she recognized them as being the couple that sat directly behind her while eating."

sweetie : This is awful! We really have to look at people who sit next to us. If I have to hang my purse on a chair I always hang it on the chair next to me so that I can see it. If there is an extra chair I put it in that chair with the strap around the back of the chair and push it under the table. I sometimes put the strap over my knee and let it hang there. I will quit hanging it on any chair. I can see how someone could take things from it if it is not zipped up. I really like sitting in a booth so I can put my purse behind me and lean on it.

I have sewn pockets inside some of my jackets for my phone and wallet. Looks like the jacket has no pockets but it does. I like to keep my hands free while shopping.

Another space saver for a fanny pack is wear a lanyard around your neck with keys. Just a suggestion. I don't care who thinks I look like a rack , I clip my fanny pack around my waist and wear my lanyards with my keys and a whistle (hubs made me put it on my lanyard) so I could blow it loudly in case anyone got any ideas of taking me down. I no longer carry a purse. I have a compartment in the back of my phone with my ID and 2 cc in it. My keys are on a lanyard either around my neck or in my pocket if they're big enough.

sweetie : Women should think about wearing front pockets & carry a regular wallet like men do. That way you can feel someone trying to reach there for it. It's practical thinking & why I often hold my hands in my pockets while walking in crowds, and when I sit down, I can feel the wallet there too. Any extra items like a church debit card should be left at home unless it's needed. I don't carry my social security card with me for example, as that's dangerous.

kyleven : Womens pockets are half the size of men's. We can barely fit anything in ours.
