CAN WE PLEASE CLEAR SOME MISSINFORMATION UP!! First- they were not abandoned, our homes were destroyed beyond repair in Harvey and they were condemned. It is the worst feeling in the world to leave your home in a boat and be told you can never go back. NO they were not all trash. SOME of us had beautiful homes and had put a LOT of money into them to remodel. We all went through more then most of you can imagine in a 17 month period. Ask my kids who are still dealing with the trauma. Owners do not own them anymore, there is no HOA it was dissolved 2 years ago. There is no one holding out on the buy out, there is no bartering of what the city gives you. There are legal issues with 3 pieces of property that a dwelling is not on because of the 1994 flood and because of the fire in 2016. There was not a building on these properties before Harvey so it is land not a building and there were issues in the FEMA buyout on those. PLEASE stop the gossiping and judging if you don't know what's going on. It is still extremely painful for those of us that have to deal with it daily. Trust me I wish they were gone too-I don't go down Hamblen road because its just too raw still. So much happened, so many good things, so many bad- sorting that all out with the entire community judging just makes it harder. Please keep in mind families lived there- families lost everything over and over again- and families continue to suffer from it all. 4951

@cnmmom82 : Doesn't answer why they don't bulldoze the place. So likely there are holdouts and lawsuits preventing it. Issue of bulldozing and issue of loss have nothing to do with one another....very dramatic. 4951

@CST : Sorry left that out, the buildings cant be demolished until all of that slab is purchased...and FEMA cant purchase the land. Its stuck right now so nothing can happen until its resolved.Dramatic?? you really have absolutely no idea. Please don't be rude. 4951

I lived in those town homes the first time they flooded badly in 1994. It was a mess then. We lost two cars and everything on the first floor of the town home with about 10' of floor water, but were very lucky to keep the things in the second and third floor. The clean-up was unreal. Flood water is beyond nasty. Many of us were sick for months after getting in there to strip it all to the studs. We brought in a structural engineer and he said the whole building had shifted on its slab and he wouldn't let his dog live there. So we walked away. Everyone should have walked away. The risk of a repeat was just too high. And, sure enough, they've flooded over and over again since that time before finally taking a death blow in Harvey. I'm sympathetic to those who lost everything - to a point. But if you choose to build a life in a place like that, after what happened in 1994, it's on you when it happens again and you lose everything. All of which is beside the point now. Now someone just needs to find the wherewithal to get rid of them for good. The damn things never should have been built. This was all inevitable. 4951

Unfortunately I moved here from Boston in 2014 and didnt know anything about 1994 floods- I know it was on a river but I grew up on a river and never flooded anything like that. If i had known then what i know now- you're right I would have never ever lived there. 4951
