#msg6019715Is it true this will lower your power bill?

v1kings28 : My understanding is yes. You will get benefits when not in use. My concern is during a transfer the surge from the backend is not regulated. Speculation but this can blow fuses and trip "breakers" controlled by the provider causing delays in restoration for the normal operation.

#msg6019714These systems back feed the grid correct? Do you get "credit" when not in use?

Zz98721 : Yes. The bill itemizes all the power you consume, and credits you for all that is fed back.

Zz98721 :
To my understanding this all has to be approved by the provider so I'd imagine they're aware and have mechanisms in place to prevent that. I've heard of no such event.

Here are some details from Base on how this all works: www.basepowercompany .com/blog/base-batte ry-guide

In summary (with AI help): Base Power prevents backfeed damage and grid re-energization by utilizing an automatic outage isolation switch built directly into its grid-connectivity hub. When the main utility grid fails, this intelligent hardware creates a physical disconnect between your home's battery system and the grid within a 0.5-second switch delay. This rapid isolation ensures that electricity from the 25 kWh or 50 kWh home battery pack cannot reverse its flow onto downed power lines, completely preventing grid damage and eliminating electrocution hazards for utility lineworkers.

jwardl : thank you. Does the loop close during outage? How does the backflow stop? A surge in both directions of a loop will cause problems. Is there an automatic transfer?

We have a generator also. If we were younger a less expensive option would be attractive. We were grateful we had the generator when we were without power for 12 days and lines for gasoline were long and at times finding gasoline was difficult .

Base's rate is on the low-end of 3-year contracts. You can still get a lower rate with a shorter contract through careful, timely shopping -- but without the backup battery, of course. And you'll have to change providers more often.

Personally, I think their long-term rate and backup provisioning are well worth it. Their system covers the vast majority of real-world outages just fine. Just understand it is a backup solution, not an electrical replacement, so will not provide continuous power during periods of long-term outages such as post-hurricane. OTOH, systems that do actually replace power are far more expensive, noisy, and require ongoing maintenance. It all boils down to what offers the best value for YOU.

#msg6018029I have it. Had two units installed back at the beginning of April. All good. Any questions I can answer?

jwardl : for a house of 2800 square feet with 2 ac units would I also need 2 units? What was aprox price you had to pay?

v1kings28 :
Well, it looks like things have changed a bit for the better since I bought in almost a year ago and got installed. Also have to correct myself; it was February I was installed, not April as I posted. There's a new model of the unit that's a bit more powerful, and reviewing my own referral page, it seems prices have remained unchanged or even dropped slightly. The rate for new sign-ups is a touch lower than mine.

I chose two units for maximum backup power even though my home is significantly smaller than yours, but you'll almost certainly need 2. My cost was reduced compared to normal due to a special promotion they were running at the time, making both units pretty close to the cost of 1, though I have no idea if that will be offered again now or ever. I'd have done it even at regular price though; finding the deal was just fortunate timing. Compared to the cost of a conventional generator, I thought it (and still do) a no-brainer.

your house is same size as mine. the new unit should be sufficient. I have a 5 ton AC and will get about 5-7 hrs of backup (fully running in summertime). if I cycle my AC or don't use it then I can get 24-36hrs of backup.
