#msg5990172Hurricane Alicia occurred 43 years ago this week. It was the first major hurricane I ever experienced and remember the day it hit us in Forest Cove. We had two small children and I was so frightened. No power, no phone and all the roads were blocked with downed trees and debris. What a mess! Does anyone else remember it?

I remember. 10 or so at the time and we were in Kings Forest and I want to say it was 3 or so days for u without power. Lots of downed trees including a few on parts of the house. I just recall debris cleanup sucked being told to have fun and pick up sticks.
buffaloglenn reacted I remember Alicia well. My husband and I had just bought our first home in Greentree. I remember the trees bending over the front of the house. We did not have power for two weeks. I had to get up and get ready in the dark to go to my job at Exxon. They had an office in Kingwood 3 at the time so at least it was close. Scalpers came down from Dallas selling bagged ice for $10 in the Jamails parking lot. That was a hell of a lot of money back then. Some restaurants smelled of food gone bad. It was horrible!
I was living in S.W. Houston, then. We got our electric back on in a couple of days.
I think after Ike we were without power for 10 days? That was in Forest Cove. After like 3-4 days Humble had power and we went to Outback steakhouse. About 90% of the menu was penciled out, the beer was warm and flat, but we ate like it was the greatest meal we'd ever had

I sure do. I lived in town then, off I10 and Bingle. Trees down, leaves stuck in everything. My bois d'arc tree dropped about 800 horse apples. No power for two weeks and a giant mess and hot!
billcherie2 reacted I was 14 yrs old, I remember the power being out and us eating all the snacks before the lights came back on. It was hot, and I was bored.
I was 4 but I have faint memories of riding around with my grandpa and seeing some downed power poles and trees. Shocking to me that things that were so big could be knocked down.
I think that was Hurricane Rita. Could not get out of KINGWOOD. Our then neighbors left, had to come back and ride out the hurricane. Wicked.
It was awful. It took us close to 16 hrs to get to Dallas with 3 small kids in 2 cars. They didn't make peep because they knew something crazy was happening. Finally made it to MIL house and she comes out and says 'what took you so long?' She never had the tv on so she had no clue what was happening on all the roads and outside world. My knee hurt for days for constantly being on the break.
