The sign is for the staff. Employees are not allowed to have cell phones while working.

I don't know... Some post office workers are just petty enough that you could imagine them denying service because you're scrolling on your phone.

UptownGirl :
no, there is no law or ordinance that limits cell use of customers. The only limitations in place are for employees, so that they pay attention to only customers, and their tasks at hand, and stay safe around the machinery that may be in their facility. if you do find a law re this, please post the link.

#msg5918977No cell phone sign at the Kingwood Post Office I can understand cell phones being prohibited while you are at the counter but I think I should be able to have my cell in the Post Office. I was in the car when my friend went in and I noticed the sign. Do you take your cell in with you?

TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Probably so you can't video tape their nonsense. ;0)

ForestFinds :
especially with their phones on speaker, or those Facetiming that family member that is in a room of screaming children! :0 that is just a suggestion by the p.o. to respect the experience of others, though, and not a law. If it Were a law, the sign would have to Clearly list the section, etc, such as "Sec. 14-66, Order No 2014", etc

TEXASGIRLMAMMA : I saw the sign as well a while back. I don't think there is any law or ordinance prohibiting it.

I assumed this particular office took it upon itself to post it because they've had so many complaints about the service. They probably don't want anyone videotaping.

I take my phone in regardless.

Actually had my mailman call the police to check on me. Ten days worth of mail in the mailbox. Vehicle in the driveway that had not moved for ten days. Dog not barking at him. No answer when he knocked on the front or back door. At my age he was worried. Fortunately, the police had my cell phone number. I was just gone visiting another son and the lady who was supposed to pick up the mail had not done her duty. It was nice that the mailman cared enough or was worried enough to check on me.

He's become a purposeful agitator. He was annoyingly perfect before but this new version, I'll keep the rest of that sentence. I'm sure you can read between the lines.

They're looking for creative ways to make the wait at the post office even worse than it already is, I guess... ; ) I can't imagine browsing my phone while waiting in line could bother anyone.
